Dr Velis will be discussing the ISWA Marine Litter Task Force work on plastic marine litter and beyond, a topic aligned with the World Environment Day theme of 'Beat Plastic Pollution', at the Society for the Environment event on the 5th of June.
For the second year the Society has showcased World Environment Day with an expert led event and a delegate list from across its 24 Licensed Professional Bodies that span a wide range of sectors. This year the event included the Society’s annual presentation of the Environmental Professional of the Year Award – recognising the outstanding work of Chartered Environmentalists (CEnvs) and Registered Environmental Technicians (REnvTechs) – as well as the award of three new Honorary Fellows of the Society for the Environment (HonFSE). These awards will contribute to an evening of celebrating and showcasing the achievements of those striving to protect and enhance the environment on a daily basis.
Happening alongside the awards is a series of HonFSE Lectures, providing expert insight into environmental issues and case studies, including the presentation by Chair of ISWA Marine Task Force, Dr Costas Velis.
The Society for the Environment is the body responsible for the registration of environmental professionals and the custodian of the Chartered Environmentalist and Registered Environmental Technician registers. Since 2004, the Society for the Environment has established a sound platform as the body tasked with championing and registering the expertise of environmental professionals. Working as a partnership with 24 Licensed Bodies, it ensures the quality, relevance and awareness of the registrations and enables its partners and registrants to work together across a range of disciplines and sectors to reflect the multi-disciplinary practice of environmental professionals.
